Are you looking to publish a poetry collection? Do you have a manuscript, but don’t know if it’s good enough? Are you getting rejected by publishing houses and worried you won’t get there? I’m here to help.
As a poetry editor, I work with writers at every stage of the manuscript. I look closely at the overall shape of a collection as well as the individual choices that give each poem its force, line by line, word by word.
My goal is to help you clarify your vision for the book and strengthen the work so it reflects that vision as fully as possible.
It would be a pleasure to read your poems and work with you toward a manuscript you feel confident submitting or publishing.
Below is an overview of the kinds of editorial support I offer.
Line Editing on Individual Poems – 100.00$ CAD
This option focuses on close, poem-by-poem attention. You will receive in-depth feedback on individual poems, with comments addressing:
- poem structure
- rhythm and sound
- tone and voice
- clarity of meaning and emotional impact
- word choice
This is best for writers who want detailed, line-level engagement with their poems.
“Big Picture” Manuscript Appraisal – 100.00$ CAD
This option focuses on the manuscript as a whole. You will receive a written evaluation (approximately 2–3 pages) that addresses:
- recurring themes and concerns
- the sequencing and organization of the collection
- how the poems work together as a book
- strengths of the manuscript
- areas where revision or re-thinking may be useful
I am also happy to respond to specific questions or concerns you have about the manuscript.
Complete Editing Package – 175.00$ CAD
This option combines both levels of feedback. You will receive:
- a full manuscript appraisal, and
- line-level editing on individual poems
This option offers the most comprehensive support and allows for a deeper editorial conversation over the course of the process.
Statement of Purpose
My role as an editor is not to reshape your work to fit my taste, but to respond carefully and honestly to what the writing itself is doing. My goal is to help you examine the relationship between what you are trying to say and the formal choices you are making, so that the work can become intentional and fully realized.
My feedback focuses on how the work functions, where its tensions are, and how its craft choices support its emotional and thematic core.
For manuscript consultations, I read poems individually and as part of a larger whole. I can provide comments on specific poems as well as an overall response to the manuscript, noting recurring themes, images, formal strategies, stylistic patterns, and areas of strength or tension.
I am also happy to provide more targeted comments, or answer specific questions, if that is your preference.
I value slow, attentive reading. I take time with each manuscript in order to listen closely to what the work is doing, where it is most confident, and where it may benefit from further revision. Often, an outside reader can notice patterns or obsessions that the writer may not be aware of.
